Methadone and Methadone Treatment

Methadone is the generic name for an analgesic and can reduce pain for persons with injuries or following surgeries.

Methadone has pharmacological properties similar to morphine and heroin, including habituation and addiction and is sometimes substituted for heroin, morphine or other opioid drugs during drug addiction treatment.

Used in some addiction treatment centers, methadone can be substituted for heroin, morphine and other opiate drugs due to a cross-tolerance, meaning that the symptoms incident to withdrawal from opiates can be reduced by using methadone.

Marijuana Single LeafDoes Marijuana Lead to Harder Drugs?

This is a loaded question. (No pun) The way this one is always phrased makes marijuana out to be a “soft drug”. All drugs have their own problematic side effects and marijuana is no exception. But of the many thousands of drugs out there, smoked marijuana is far above even the half-way mark for being dangerous. It IS a harder drug.

That being said, does marijuana lead someone to use other drugs considered more harmful or more addicting? I don’t think anyone can prove that smoking marijuana actually causes someone to move on to drugs like heroin or cocaine. However…

Marijuana leafIs marijuana natural?

Yes. The plant is natural, it will grow by itself, unaided in many climates. Originating in central Asia, it can grow wild on every continent other that Antarctica.

Smoking marijuana is, however, a very unnatural act. Many dangerous chemicals are created in the burning process and smoke from a marijuana cigarette contains harmful and unnatural chemicals which are proven harmful.

When is an Addiction Bad Enough to Require Treatment?

Addiction to drugs or alcohol is not an on—off switch. There is not really a point at which you can say, “Wow, yesterday I was just a drug abuser, but today I am a drug addict.”

Most of the drug abusers do not become addicted. They abuse drugs for a certain period and then just sort of graduate out of it; or they become interested in life and realize that drug use is getting in the way of their goals and simply stop.

But an unfortunately high number of drug abusers do pass the point of control, the point at which addiction sets in. And anyone CAN become addicted.

Detox and Rehab—In That Order!

Drug-Free For Her!There is a rash of new “Drug Detox Centers” showing up all over the country. They usually promote their services by promising detoxification while you sleep, or, painless detox, or, “Three Day Detox!”

Okay, I understand someone wanting to avoid the pain of withdrawal from powerful drugs. There is a reason why addicts go to such great lengths to escape the agony of withdrawal symptoms. I’ve been there. But we need to put a name on what is being accomplished.
