Time to Make a Good Trade
Don’t forget, when a drug abuser gives up drugs, he or she is giving up something very dear.
There are reasons they kept using, even in the face of all the opposition. Drugs and the whole drug culture are what their lives have been revolving around for years. the sensations, the laughter and the friendships that were revolving around the drug use, all these things must be given up to sustain sobriety.
Many addicts find a replacement extended family in group meetings. Others join churches and have the support and help there. This is a very important element in recovery. When drugs a all that goes with them is suddenly removed, the addict is a left with a considerable void.
Whatever the user replaces drugs with must fit a few criteria.
- It must be sufficiently interesting that it demands some attention, attention that was formerly on the drug habit.
- There must be a challenge involved. If it is too easy, the game is over too soon and drug urges begin to creep out of their box again.
- I has to be something that promotes good, healthy survival in the future.
- It must be real. No, “Ill be a movie actor!”, or, “I’ll write novels and plays”. Of course, if there is a history and talent in those directions, great. But going for a goal that just doesn’t have much chance is riding for a fall.
So, if the you replace drug addiction with something better, the chances of making it go right out the top. Believe me, there is more laughter and real friendship and the sensations are better when the drugs are gone.
It worked for me. I just made 34 1/2 years without touching speed.
Good luck.
