What is the difference between an addicted individual and one who has stopped their drug taking?  If we examine this, we can learn something useful about drug addiction.

Let’s stand them together. Someone who has ceased consuming dangerous and addictive drugs stands right next to a fully strung-out, stoned, blurry eyed drug addict. We should try to pick out the differences, the user from the ex-user.

Troubled ManTo help a drug addict, any addiction counselor can tell you, the first hurdle is to get the addict’s agreement to receive help. No amounts of advice or friendly mannerisms are going to make a difference if there is no willingness to quit drugs.

At anytime during the process of getting a drug addict to treatment you can do an intervention. Honestly, I have seen so much time and thousands of dollars wasted and more importantly, death, due to delayed interventions, that at this point, I say just cut to the chase and do an intervention.

I know it can be confusing to the family. Why should you do an intervention if the addict is not willing to go to treatment? If you cannot convince him, who will?

How Can I Help My Son Or Daughter Quit Drugs?
