Don’t think that quitting drugs is going to solve all the addict’s problems.
What the addict did while on drugs wasn’t exactly creating a good future. Once the drugs are removed, the work of rebuilding a life has to begin.
When an addict tries to quit but then relapses to drugs, it occurs because he or she didn’t change anything. We’re not talking about just a change of location or of friends. The addict must change abilities.

I just read a blog-post where the author said,
“I am an addict. I will always be an addict. Some people tell me that because I haven’t used drugs in years, I am no longer a drug addict, but I know better.”
He goes on to state that he wakes up every morning thinking about using drugs and wondering if he can make it through the day without relapsing!
I don’t know this guys history, but it’s pretty clear that he was never rehabilitated!

I spoke to a kid this week at the request of his mother. He was a great looking boy and seemed alert and was definitely willing to speak to me.
His mother told me that he was out of control and had been busted at his school for possession of eight ecstasy pills. This was a kid on ecstasy.
If I hadn’t dealt with so many addicts, I would have had a hard time believing that this was an addicted teen. He had turned 15 years old the week-end before I arrived, and was alert and willing to talk to me.
