Chances of Overcoming Drug Addiction

Recovered AddictHello everybody, sorry about the sporadic posts, I have received some emails asking what’s up. I have been busy launching a couple of new projects, one on the net and one in the classrooms. But I should be able to catch up here soon!

During a lecture in a library last week, a teacher asked a question:

“Tony, what are the chances of anybody completely overcoming drug addiction, really?”
Before I answered him I asked if he ever knew someone who was successful at overcoming addiction to drugs and he said, “You are the only one.”  The students just stared at him.

Psychoactive Ingredients in “Spice” and “K-2” Come Under Federal Control as of March 1, 2011

"Spice" and "K-2" sold as safe!?The US Drug Enforcement Administration today exercised its emergency scheduling authority to control five psychoactive ingredients used to make Spice and K-2 and a variety of other “fake pot” products currently being sold in various areas of the country.

This changes existing statutes of these drugs to schedule 1 under the US Controlled Substances Act. Schedule 1 is the most restrictive level of control and is reserved for “substances with a high potential for abuse, no accepted medical use for treatment in the United States and a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug under medical supervision.”

The 7 Steps Necessary to Overcoming Drug Addiction

This seems so obvious that it need not be mentioned. This might require medical help during the initial withdrawal, but usually can be accomplished comfortably and without using dangerous drugs.

Drug-Free For Her!There is a rash of new “Drug Detox Centers” showing up all over the country. They usually promote their services by promising detoxification while you sleep, or, painless detox, or, “Three Day Detox!”

Okay, I understand someone wanting to avoid the pain of withdrawal from powerful drugs. There is a reason why addicts go to such great lengths to escape the agony of withdrawal symptoms. I’ve been there. But we need to put a name on what is being accomplished.
