Drug-Free For Her!There is a rash of new “Drug Detox Centers” showing up all over the country. They usually promote their services by promising detoxification while you sleep, or, painless detox, or, “Three Day Detox!”

Okay, I understand someone wanting to avoid the pain of withdrawal from powerful drugs. There is a reason why addicts go to such great lengths to escape the agony of withdrawal symptoms. I’ve been there. But we need to put a name on what is being accomplished.

How Can I Help My Son Or Daughter Quit Drugs?

This is the call I get the most and it is also the easiest question to answer. How can you help your son or daughter get off drugs? Get them to treatment, NOW.

This may sound like it is over reacting, but when a young person is unable to quit drugs on their own, it means that their addiction has already become more than they can handle.

Drug Relapse and Dishonesty. What is the Connection?

When relapse to drugs or alcohol addiction is imminent, there are indications, signs that can be seen and the slip can be predicted. One the reliable signs of a coming relapse is dishonesty.

Is the recovering addict exhibiting any of the following indicators?

• Lying about whereabouts

• Missing money

• Not showing up at agreed upon meetings or social functions

• “Little white lies”, that are unnecessary, where the truth would serve just as well

• Accusations of, “you don’t trust me!”

These are not the only danger signs, but you get the idea.

This is a growing resource for people who work in the Drug Detox and Rehab industry and for people who are facing a substance abuse problem in themselves or a loved one. There will also be an area for those who are in recovery from substance Fieldabuse and addiction and want to share their insights and experiences.

While it may not be real to expect that a former abuser can ever become totally free of all the effects of having been addicted, to say that addiction is completely incurable or “once an addict, always an addict” is not only easily proved false, but it ignores the thousands of FORMER addicts walking around in society today.
I am one of those former addicts…sober for 34 years-and loving it.
