“I’ll Always Be an Addict”…Oh, Really?
I just read a blog-post where the author said,
“I am an addict. I will always be an addict. Some people tell me that because I haven’t used drugs in years, I am no longer a drug addict, but I know better.”
He goes on to state that he wakes up every morning thinking about using drugs and wondering if he can make it through the day without relapsing!
I don’t know this guys history, but it’s pretty clear that he was never rehabilitated!
A person coming through a Narconon drug rehab center would not be completed on the program if he or she was still yearning for their drugs. Even occasionally…but every morning?!!
It is one thing to stop using, to get through the withdrawal period. That requires whatever effort it requires and it varies from person to person, drug to drug.
But to be rehabilitated? That is completely another thing.
A center might be expert at helping the patient through the initial withdrawal period, getting them through all the doubts and pains and tremors and whatever with a minimum of trouble, but then be totally inept at helping them to rebuild their lives!
Every time you hear about someone “going through rehab” three, five, ten times and still having no success staying clean, you know they were never really rehabbed at all.
The most important aspect to drug addiction treatment is that the addict, is no longer an addict when leaving to program.
